Last Autumn, the inaugural Liverpool Disco Festival landed in the Baltic Triangle with a vibrant weekend of undisputed hedonism and a passion for disco music. Now, as they join us on MD Radio, the disco aficionados bring a special show focused on the genre-defining Louie Vega, before he joins them at Constellations this Friday.
A collaboration between Liverpool trendsetters, Hustle, SUNcéBeat, and the Southport Weekender, the Liverpool Disco Festival is back this year with another massive line-up. With The Zanzibar’s Tony Humphries performing along with disco pioneers Nicky Siano, Joey Negro and a whole host more, the Liverpool Disco Festival is set to bring another unrivalled weekend of dancing to The Baltic Triangle. The breathtaking party ‘set a precedent for a new era of dance music; inspired by and honouring the past, yet always looking forward, searching for that perfect beat.’
In keeping with this ethos, the LDF bring us something special on Friday 24th of February in the lead up to the second edition of the festival in May. Having performed at last year’s party, the maestro Louie Vega will be performing at Constellations for a celebratory “Flashback” party. With the Liverpool Disco Festival celebrating 30 years of the Southport Weekender, Louie Vega will go back to his roots as well, taking you on a trip with the best in disco, soulful house, and latin classics.
Having set up Hustle 5 years ago, James Morgan knows a thing or two about throwing parties. In his own words, Hustle ‘pays homage to the original stateside sounds while drawing on modern day influences.’ It appears that they will be joined by the epitome of this in Louie Vega, having held a residency at the influential Sound Factory Bar alongside pioneers such as Frankie Knuckles, as well as releasing prominent remixes as Masters At Work with Kenny Dope.
In the run up to this party, Hustle and LDF resident James Morgan joined us in the studio for a 2 hour show playing nothing but Louie Vega classics from start to finish. The Vega Records DJ even listened in himself, gaining a little insight into what he might expect from the residents who will be warming up on the night. As James and Louie Vega are joined by Natasha Kitty Katt and Jimmy Allen on Friday, the radio show gave us a little taster of what to expect at Constellations. This radio show truly is testament to the New York sound that Louie Vega has passionately supported and established and we look forward to hearing some of the tracks out at the Flashback party.
