Constellations Live Series: The Max Graef Band (Torben Unit)
Written by James Zaremba on 3rd February 2017
Kicking off their brand-new monthly Live Series, Constellations bring Torben Unit (formerly the Max Graef Band) to Liverpool. Having stolen the show at our first birthday with a headline DJ set bursting with unreleased treats from his label, Money $ex Records, we are happy to join Constellations in welcoming Max back to the city.
With two recent album releases gaining huge traction, the band’s German take on contemporary funk is like no other. Combining off-kilter rhythms, funk-infused melodies and Max’s flair for creating dancefloor-ready music, this team of musicians are arguably some of the finest funk creators around today.
Joining Max in the band will be a number of fellow Money $ex, Box Aus Holz and Tartlet affiliates: Kickflip Mike, who is known for a string on releases on M$ and Tartlet Records, will be holding it all together on the drums and Alex Seidel, who released the wonderfully choppy ‘Groove Attack‘ back in 2015, will be commanding the synths and percussion section. Completing the band will be Valentin Handrick on the Fender Rhodes, Ludwig Labuzinski on the sampler and effects, and Gerry Franke on the guitar.
Be sure to get down early to catch our residents spinning an all-vinyl warm-up set of jazz, funk and soul.
