Mates: A Picture of Liverpool’s Electronic Music Scene
Written by James Zaremba on 17th December 2018
A community of producers, DJs, music collectors and visual artists, Emotion Wave has become a hotbed in and around Liverpool for unearthing everything from undiscovered bedroom musicians to the fastest rising talents in the city.
Supporting emerging experimental electronic artists via their bi-monthly showcase night, stand-alone events and their monthly radio show on Melodic Distraction, Emotion Wave are rapidly becoming a go-to source of musical inspiration in Merseyside.
Yet another dimension to the Emotion Wave venture, the crew’s regular charity compilation albums showcase sounds from the North West of England and beyond.
Following on from the success of their previous output, Emotion Wave return with Mates, an 8-tracker that takes a departure from the usual format of comps. For this release, they have curated a series of collaborative tracks, promoting the cross-pollination of various sounds and influences along the way.
Highlights include tracks by label boss Lo Five, bass guitarist Steve Amadeo, Black Beacon Sound’s Bemp and many more.
All proceeds from the sale of Mates will be donated to Tom Harrison House, a specialist facility based in Anfield which provides a 12-week addiction recovery programme exclusively to military veterans, reservists, emergency personnel, and their families.
