Lockdown Live Lounge: Sahra Gure & Forest Law
Written by katehazeldine on 4th April 2020
Okay, so. We’re all stuck in quarantine. We may have been living off peanut-butter toasties and seeing how long we can leave our hair unwashed because, well, just because. But at least we’ve still got the internet (oh holy one) and the music, right? So, we’ve taken advantage of everyone being stuck indoors and have a brand new online series for you: Lockdown Live Lounge.
Lockdown Live Lounge invites our favourite artists, local and afar, to live-stream a mini gig from their homes. That’s right, every Monday and Thursday at 2pm, give your ears and eyes a little hug from the freshest talent across the UK. An intimate experience like never before, we invite you to sink into our ‘Lockdown Live Lounge’, but from the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to get dressed to ‘go out’. How mad is that?
To kick things off, we’re collaborating with Stepping Tiger to present the incredibly talented Sahra Gure. Winner of the Musicians’ Company Young Jazz Musician Award 2019, Sahra is already pipped by Jazzwise as ‘one to watch in 2020’. Championed by the likes of Bandcamp Daily and Worldwide FM, this miss is certainly one for your radar. We can’t wait to hear her silky tones live, following the self-release of her new single ‘Blackbird’, a gorgeous cover of The Beatles original. Come and watch over on our Facebook page, Monday 6th at 2pm.
Following this, we’ve got Future Bubblers alumnus Forest Law, fresh from his debut release on Brownswood Recordings. Rio meets Romford on the London-based artist’s self-titled EP, an assured introduction to the singer and multi-instrumentalist’s tight, groove-driven sound. The EP features Esa Williams (Soundway, Rush Hour) on the berimbau on ‘Keep an Eye Out’, his mentor through Future Bubblers and bandmate in Esa’s Afro-Synth Band. We’re stoked to watch his warm eclectic compositions, that were made in his garden shed, live in our living rooms on Thursday 9th, 2pm.
