MDR Selects – Kratos Himself

Written by on 25th June 2019

MDR Selects, a new (old) series where we invite our favourite artists, record stores, labels and more to curate a playlist of songs that hold specific meaning to them. This edition invites another Youngbloods talent, Kratos Himself, to share his selections. Fresh from the release of his second album ‘Solstice/Part II’, deliberately released on the Summer Solstice, Kratos unveils sounds that have inspired the record. ‘Part II’ is the second and final chapter of ‘Solstice’, a two-part conceptual project paying tribute to the celestial dance separating the seasons. It honours the rituals of his home, The Netherlands, binding melancholic meditations to the patient, ancestral soundscapes of the forest and countryside.

“This playlist consists of songs that I’ve taken inspiration from or have been listening to on a frequent basis. Many of these songs were on rotation during the time I was making “Solstice/Part II” and I found myself particularly moved by their dynamic sound design and palettes.”
