Melodic Distraction Radio: Liverpool’s Newest Independent Online Radio Platform
Written by Josh Aitman on 11th January 2017
With our 2nd Birthday fast approaching, we are excited to announce plans for our next project; Melodic Distraction Radio…
As we set the finishing touches to our studio and fine tune our sound system, we are excited to delve into the mysterious world of online radio. As a hub for music in the Baltic Triangle, Melodic Distraction Radio will draw together parties, selectors and record collectors from across the North West and further afield, providing a vocal point for the special music culture that we have right on our doorstep.
After two years of throwing parties we bring to you an online independent radio station hosted by the community for the community. Striving to display a broad policy of musical taste with something for just about everyone. Without the need for a tuner, we are completely online for the time being.
Ever since we started partying in the Constellations warehouse 2 years ago, sharing music has always been essential to what we do and why we do it. We are lucky to be part of such a strong musical community here in Liverpool, which draws together when times are tough and continues to provide phenomenal shows across the city. Here in the Baltic Triangle, we have reached a crossroads, with the future of venues like Constellations, our spiritual home, and 24 Kitchen Street, in doubt. It’s about time we started shouting about what we have here and why we are so proud of it, so Melodic Distraction Radio will be hitting the airwaves alongside some of our best friends in order to provide some radio therapy for our beloved city. With internationally acclaimed stations residing in other cities, including the likes of NTS, Radar Radio, Reform Radio, KMAH and Balamii, we are certain that Liverpool is up to the task, with your support.
From January 13th, we have curated an initial programme filled with the sounds of Hustle, 303, Less Effect, Abandon Silence and Sessions Factions as well as our favourite diggers, selectors and record collectors. Lend us your ears and we guarantee that you will find something to your taste. From talk-based shows investigating the city’s musical heritage, to mixes from Liverpool’s finest DJ’s and party starters, we are looking forward to seeing how far this project can go.
Check out our pilot show below from back in December with the Hustle crew as we began testing out the new platform.
After the initial run of shows, we will be jumping into February with an extended programme, with some exciting additions to announce. In order to maintain the studio and platform, we need your support. If you like what you see and want to help out, we will be launching a crowdfunding campaign to sustain the radio and develop the site into a fully functioning online radio platform and magazine. Liverpool music lovers can invest into the project with a number of great rewards up for grabs. These rewards will include branded merchandise, annual ticket passes and workshop opportunities. That’s not to mention the first ever physical copy of our online publication for every single person that supports us. There will be more to come about that in the near future!
Melodic Distraction has always been envisioned as an inclusive project; one that everyone can take part in and make their own. Whether that be shaking your feet at a party, reading or writing for the online magazine or simply digging the music that we want to share with you, Melodic Distraction is open to everyone who wants to get involved. A unique music hub made by music lovers, for music lovers, the world over.
If you want to get involved simply send us a message or speak to us at the next party! Sit back and tune in to Melodic Distraction Radio, with our first show this Friday at 8pm. It will be live streamed from our Facebook page as a one-off and, from then on, you will be able to listen live from our our website, with previous shows getting uploaded to our Radio Section for your listening pleasure. We are looking forward to the future and hope that you can share the journey with us…
