Premiere: Vanilla Dinosaurs – Moon Rhapsody [BEEF Records, 2017]
Written by Tom Lye on 25th October 2017
Having celebrated their 12th birthday this year, BEEF release their inaugural compilation series entitled Selected Works, showcasing a range of artists and producers on their back catalogue. We picked out Moon Rhapsody by Vanilla Dinosaurs, ahead of its release on October 27th.
It is testament to their unorthodox approach as a label, putting a mysterious newcomer to the scene as the first track on a brand new compilation, and Vanilla Dinosaurs‘ statement of intent is a bold one. The production capabilities are apparent, with softly textured ambient sounds and sample use giving a warm backdrop to this deep house cut. Simple yet effective piano melodies rear their head throughout, while windy, spacious synths and an acid tinged bassline take precedent. The elegant progression that runs throughout the 3-minute Moon Rhapsody makes it wonderfully suited to home listening. We expect to hear a lot more from this emerging producer, but with nothing but an empty Soundcloud account to go by, we’ll just have to wait and see what else Vanilla Dinosaurs have to offer…
Now based in Prague, BEEF Records began life in 2006 in Sydney, and has become a platform for established artists and talented newcomers to share a diverse musical output that largely encompasses electronic music. Selected Works #1 is released on BEEF Records on October 27th and you can cop the whole thing from their website, Bandcamp, and all good record stores.
